Mise en Place means everything in its place before you start cooking. Same idea here: this room is your setup station, so you know where things go before you jump in. A quick tour.
The topics (where to post what)
The community is split into a handful of rooms, each with its own job:
- Ask the Experts — questions you want a chef to answer. Techniques, troubleshooting, "why did this happen."
- Recipe Lab — cooking a recipe and want to talk about it? Share what you made, how it went, what you'd tweak.
- The Why Behind the How — the food science. Why gluten develops, why the sear works, the reasoning under the technique.
- On My Plate — what's on your stove right now. Works in progress, tonight's dinner, the thing you're proud of.
- The Gear Room — equipment talk. Joule, knives, Control Freak Home, pans, the tool you can't live without or can't figure out.
- The Kitchen Sink — everything else. Off-topic, restaurant finds, the stuff that doesn't fit a tidy box.
Not sure where something goes? Post it in the Kitchen Sink. We'd rather have your question in the wrong room than not at all.
Tags: how to get found
Rooms are where a post lives. Tags are what it's about, and you can add as many as fit. A post about sous vide chicken might be tagged sous-vide, chicken, and weeknight all at once. Tags cut across every room, so they're how you (and everyone else) find related posts fast. Add a few when you post — future-you will thank present-you.
